Theory Group, Microsoft Research Asia
Group Overview
The Theory group aims at advancing the understanding of the foundation of computer science and collaborating with other groups in Microsoft Research and Microsoft product division to solve challenging algorithmic and analytical problems. With Turing Award winner, Professor Andrew C. Yao as the Chief Advisor, the theory group is building strong connections with the academic community in China and abroad to work together on fundamental problems in theoretical computer science.

Intern Position Openings
We are seeking highly motivated graduate students to join the Theory group as interns working on exciting areas in theoretical computer science. The students should be in his or her graduate program studying in areas related to theoretical computer science, such as algorithms and complexity theory, theory of distributed computing, theory of programming languages, game theory, mathematics and statistics, etc. The students should demonstrate solid training in theoretical computer science and/or mathematics. A good publication record is a plus.

Group MSR Asia – DIT Group

Group Overview The Data Intelligence and Tools group at MSRA is dedicated to the research and development of data intelligence and exploration tools for future data-driven and Internet-driven software and services. Software design, development and maintenance is becoming increasingly complex and largely dependent on data collected from numerous sources such as system log data, customer feedback and the Internet. Efficient use of information from these data sources is critical to improving software usability, stability, performance, compatibility and security.
Roles & Responsibilities Work together with researcher to design and implement a content management and delivery system oriented to mass of multimedia content information. For the purpose of system implementation, besides database and Web server programming, the candidate should also be familiar with the GUI programming skill in order for developing Web-based and client-side GUI application.
The prototype system will be delivered in MSRA office.
Required Qualifications If you are
1. MS in Computer Science or any related technical field and possess the following skills:
2. Good programming skills, especially C#, XML, ADO.NET, ASP.NET. AJAX skill is expected optionally;

Group Overview Using our voices to communicate continues to be the most natural and the easiest way to exchange ideas and thoughts. At MSR Asia, the Speech Group is working hard to turn their ideas into reality and improve spoken-language technologies, enable human-computer voice interaction, and enrich human-to-human voice communications. The group’s current focus includes speech recognition to enable computers to facilitate access to data, help create content, and perform tasks; speech synthesis to enable computers to speak with a human-sounding voice, to respond and provide information, and to read; and spoken-document retrieval and processing to enrich communication between people.
Roles & Responsibilities The Microsoft Research Asia speech group has a 6 month internship available in the area of spoken document recommendation and metadata generation. The project will examine new techniques for automatically generating relationships, keywords and recommendations for spoken documents based on spoken content, acoustic events and visual features. Any research findings will be directly applicable to applications such as video recommendation and multimedia document indexing.
Required Qualifications We are looking for:
1. Excellent skills in speech recognition and/or natural language processing;
2. Solid understanding of probabilistic modelling and statistical training algorithms;
3. Very Strong C++ coding skills are required;
4. Have the experience in using scripting languages such as perl, python or unix scripts;
5. Good technical reading, written, speaking in English.
6. Ph.D or M.S candidate, can commit at least 6-month’s internship

Group Overview Researchers in the Visual Computing Group are turning their ideas into reality in areas such as computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, image/video analysis and retrieval. Projects pushing the state-of-the-art forward include face detection and tracking, face modeling and recognition, cartoon generation, video summarization, 2D and 3D object tracking, image and video retrieval for object tracking, image and video retrieval for MSN, and Xbox camera based game interfaces.
Roles & Responsibilities VC Group welcomes students working on the projects for a period of minimally three months.
