Greeeeaaaaatttttt News!
Awareness Promotion Committee

Promotional email to students:
Dear fellow activists,
Hope this email finds you all well after Chinese New Year! We're excited to
announce that the fifth college forum is gonna kick off in June in Wuhan.
The main topic this year is global warming and energy conservation. We are
all aware that there's a strong need to raise public awareness about this
issue in China right now. Even as student activists, not many of us know
quite well why global warming is important, how it is connected with our
daily life, and what we can do to make a change. China is the second
largest contributor to global warming in this world, but not much has been
done so far from both the public and private sectors. This is the critical
time for us to step it up and start to do something about is, especially on
college campuses.
According to a Pew Global Attitudes Report, "there is no evidence of alarm
over global warming in either the United States or China - the two largest
producers of greenhouse gases. Just 19% of Americans and 20% of the Chinese
who have heard of the issue say they worry a lot about global warming - the
lowest percentages in the 15 countries surveyed." However, in countries
like Japnan and India, around two-thirds of the population say they
personally worry a great deal about global warming. Moreoever, "roughly
half of the populations of Spain (51%) and France (46%) also express great
concern over global warming, based on those who have heard about the
issue." (For more information, visit
http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=252)
In recent years, there has been widespread global actions on global warming
and energy issues in countries all over the world. Students in many
countries, either developing or developed countries, have been engaged in
educating the public and exploring ways to involve the government and the
business world so that solutions can be workable and beneficial to all. We,
as Chinese students, of course cannot lag behind! Because it is our
responsibility to sustain a healthy green world! People in other parts of
the world should not suffer from our negligence.
I believe the Wuhan Conference will be a good chance for us to familiarize
ourselves with this issue, learn how to organize ourselves to put our
efforts into work, and create projects that can make a change all around
Chinese colleges! In order to achieve these goals, it is important for us
to not only come to the conference, but also be attitude-wise and
knowledge-wise prepared. Therefore, it will be extremely helpful if we
could accomplish the following tasks before the conference:
1. Build a translation team:
Although not many resources are available in China, there's a lot of
litterature and studies on global warming done in other countries. We also
have abundant training materials from the US about how to organize climate
change activities and other things in general. However, those amazing
resources can't be effectively used if not translated into Chinese.
2. Experiment projects and ideas before the conference from April to May:
We'll have several college student groups in different regions in China
to start with some projects first. So during the conference we will be able
to evaluate the outcomes and explore solutions with the prior experience.
3. Spread the word to your friends, families, and professors! Research on
global warming and energy issues, keep track with what is going on in the
world, and talk about it with as many people as possible! See what
responses you can get and think about how you can approach problems that
might emerge in your activities! Come to the conference with your opinions!
We have a lot of opportunities for you to get involved! We need people for
our translation team, publicity team, research team, and media team. If you
are interested in joining any of them, please tell us about your
experiences. We value your help and ideas!
If you want to sign up your group to our pre-conference projects, please
give us a brief description of your group including what your group has
done, who are the core members, and what kind of projects you want to do
and how you will go about it. These taskss are highly flexible and geared
towards your own interests and abilities. We will provide resources and
instructions if you wish. Be a leader today!
All the best,
CEF Promotion Committee |
