Sonnet VII

do not love me for i can't bring you gold,
and only my young mind runs like a bolt;
my heels are too heavy and my legs old,
and i miss the time when i was a colt.
let me anchor and you cont'nue your ship
which you sail for the future not the past;
when you catch a good fish, don't let it slip,
as it's hard to find in the ocean vast.
with my deep love you'll find in yourself strength,
whene'er you brave the waves, or ride the storms
in the journey of wonder and great length
or face alligators or other forms
I shall stay here for i'm decades older,
find your own love to lean on his shoulder. |
