“Oh, fairy godmother------it’s like a dream come true!” Cinderella shouted joyfully.
“Yes, child. But like all dreams, it can’t last forever. At the stroke of twelve, everything will be as it was before. Remember that you have to leave the ball before midnight, or the prince will find out you are just a dusty girl. And then, I cannot help you. Will you remember my words?”
“Yes. I’ll remember. Thank you, fairy Godmother.” With these words, Cinderella climbed into the magnificent coach and was whisked away to the royal ball.
“Fairy sister, how wonderful it is.” Shouted the little boy once Cinderella got out of sight, “But can we go the ball too?” then he asked in a low voice.
“Yes. I’m afraid we have to. We must remind her of the time and we must find her a real crystal boot.”
“What’s that for?” asked the little boy, but then he understood so he smiled.
“Ok, here we go.” The fairy sister said and became a bird again, flew to the palace with the little boy. When they arrived there, they saw girls in beautiful satin and silk, rushing into the palace.
“Where is Cinderella?” without finding Cinderella, the little boy asked.
“Don’t worry. It’s not always better to be the first one. Sometimes, it’s better to be the last one.” Said the princess, and soon, all the girls rushed into the palace and it became quiet.
“Are you sure she is coming?” worrying about Cinderella, the little boy asked.
“My dear. Count from ten back to one.” Said the princess. Losing no time, the boy started to count, and then he heard noises of a running carriage. Cinderella showed up at last. The guards, who were closing the gate, hearing the noises, stopped and turned back. The little boy at last got relieved. Cinderella got down from the carriage and she looked fabulous, prettier and more graceful than any other girls who had got in.
“Oh, What a beauty. She must be the one our prince is waiting for. Look. She wears crystal boots.” Exclaimed the guards and they ran to Cinderella, leaning forwards.
“The most beautiful girl, please come with me. Our prince is waiting for you.” said the guards, holding out their hands, showed Cinderella the way into the palace. In great happiness, Cinderella held their hands and went into the palace like a princess.
“Oh. She did it. She did it.” cried the little boy, a little shaking.
“So are we going back now?” the princess asked, jokingly.
“Going back? Why?” but the little boy asked.
“Don’t you think we have been in the story for too long a time?“No. I don’t want to go back. I want to see the end of the story. Fairy sister, please. Let’s go into the palace, Cinderella must be dancing with the prince now.” the little boy caught the princess’s hand, shaking and sweating.
“How exciting you are. Ok. Let’s go.” The princess then flew into the palace, with the little boy following her.
“It’s over there.” Pointing to a brilliant building, the princess said. So they went there and through the window, they saw hundreds of girls standing there, watching the girl coming in with the guards.
“It’s Cinderella.” Said the little boy. He then turned to the prince who had noticed Cinderella and obviously he was shocked by Cinderella’s beauty and the way she walked and smiled. She was so charming and so pretty and so graceful!
“Go to ask her to dance with you.” the little boy, seeing the prince just standing there, shouted.
“Watch her sisters. They are the most jealous ones.” Said the princess to the little boy who flew in and he heard the two sisters talking.
“It’s Cinderella. Oh. Why is she here? Why does she have such a beautiful gown? No. I must tell the prince the truth. I’ll be the queen, not anyone else.” Said the taller one and she walked to Cinderella with her sister. The little boy got worried. He stopped on the taller sister’s head and danced on it, which frightened her and she shouted out.
“Oh, what’s that? What’s that?” But before she shouted, the little boy had flown away and he suddenly found he had become a guard.
“Thank you, fairy sister.” He said to himself and then shouted.
“Take that girl away, and the one smiling beside her.” His words reminded the guards and they all ran to the two sisters.
“No. No.” the two sisters cried, kicking and scratching. But they were taking away by the guards and they were still shouting.
“I’ll be the queen, not her, not anyone else. I’ll be the queen. I’m the queen.” But it’s of no use. They were taken away.
The little boy, who was a guard then, thought he would be changed into a bird again, but he wasn’t. He stood there, waiting for the princess to find him.
“Are you coming or not?” seeing he wasn’t moving, another guard asked.
“Oh.” He exclaimed, not knowing what to do, but then he followed them.
“Oh. Fairy sister. Where are you now?” he asked in his heart, but got no reply. He came back to the hall with other guards and Cinderella was already dancing with the prince.
“Oh, I missed it.” said the boy. He wanted to be there when the prince asked Cinderella to dance with him, but seeing Cinderella was so happy with the prince, he smiled!
The prince didn’t dance with any other girls, and Cinderella was like a princess, and any others girls there were jealous of her, but they had to acquire that Cinderella was the beauty of them all and they asked each other who she was, but nobody knew, and the only thing they knew was that none of them would be the queen, but Cinderella.
At last, music stopped and they were taking a rest. The prince holding Cinderella’s hand, sat down with her and until then did the princess came to the little boy again.
“Where have you been?” Noticing the bird on his shoulder, he asked.
“Oh. Cinderella didn’t know how to dance, so I have to help her. Now, I’m sure she is a good dancer and there is nothing to worry about now. Come on, we must go.” Said the princess.
“To go where?”
“You forgot? We must find her a real crystal boot! Everything on her will change back after midnight. I want to find a real crystal boot for Cinderella so the prince can find her.”
“Yea. That’s true. Then let’s get going.”
“Hey. You are not a big man yet, but you do talk like a big man.” The princess said and then asked the little boy to go to a corner and changed him into a bird and they flew out.
“How to find a real crystal boot?” in the sky, the little boy asked.
“I have to ask you.”
“Ask me? I have no idea.”
“Have you ever read a story and there is a real crystal boot?”
“Cinderella. Her crystal boot doesn’t change.”
“Oh, you’ll see. If we don’t find her a real one, it will change back. Come on. We have to go back first.” The little boy suddenly felt falling down and when he opened his eyes again, he found he was already in his own room.
“We are back. Why we are back?” vexed, the boy asked.
“Don’t cry. There must be a way, and we must be hurry.”
“Can we go to the end of the story? We can borrow the crystal from Cinderella and then we go back!” thinking of that, the little boy laughed.
“Oh. If there is no boot at all, how can there be one? Come on, you have to write a story with a real crystal boot in and we go into that story and take the real crystal boot out. Hurry, we only have an hour left. Can you make up a story in an hour?” the princess asked, urging him.
“I’ll try.” Said the little boy, picked his pen and exercise book and then thought.
“Oh. I can’t. I don’t know what to write.” But then he said, almost crying.
“Yes. You can. You can. My dear little prince, You can. Cinderella is waiting for us. Try it. Any story.”
“Ok. I’ll try.” The little boy then thought again and at last he had a story.
Once upon a time, there lived a prince. He was handsome and rich. One day, he met a beautiful girl. He fell in love with her, but the girl whose feet were of the size of Cinderella’s was poor. Her mother died early and he had no shoes. The prince then made her a pair of crystal boots. They were beautiful. The girl liked them very much. But the prince had something else to do. He promised he would come back and take her to the palace. The girl nodded and waited for him. But a witch’s daughter knew the story. He wanted to marry the prince too. She came into that girl’s house and stole the boots, and then she changed the girl into a bird while she put on that girl’s looks. The prince came. He took the witch’s daughter away and married her. But every night, in his garden, he heard a bird singing.
“Boots, boots, boots.”
“How annoying it is!” the witch’s daughter knew it’s that girl. She wanted to kill the bird, so she said, “Your majesty. Can’t we just kill her? It’s so annoying.” The prince didn’t know the truth, so he nodded.
“Ok, that’s enough.” The princess stopped him, and held his hand.
“Let’s go.” She said and then went into the boy’s unfinished story. They were in a garden and they heard a bird singing.
“Boots, boots, boots.”
“She is there.” Shouted the boy, happily.
“Yes. Don’t frighten her.” Said the princess and then she turned to the little bird.
“Oh, we are so sorry for you. We know you are the girl the prince loves, not the witch’s daughter. Now, the witch’s daughter wants to kill you. But don’t worry, we can help you.” said the princess and her words silenced the bird, who flew to them and stood on her shoulder.
“We can help you, but we must borrow your crystal boot, one is enough. We’ll return it to you. We must go to help another girl. She needs the boot. Do you want to help her too?” asked the princess and the bird nodded. |
