So what does the spinning dancer tell us? The whole test is more of an optical illusion(视错觉) than anything else, according to Steven Novella, an academic clinical neurologist at Yale University School of Medicine who blogs on NeuroLogica(持反驳意见的就是耶鲁大学相关学科的专家). When our brains process visual images to make some order or sense of the world, they have to make assumptions.
The dancer is just a two dimensional image switching back and forth, but our brains process it as a three dimensional spinning object.
Depending on the assumptions made and visual cues picked up, your brain can make the dancer spin either way. When my friend first sent the test to me, I saw it go clockwise…then switch to counterclockwise as I was staring at the screen. What this tells me about my personality and mental abilities is hardly a no-brainer – the brain test connection to our mental strengths and weaknesses is nonexistent.

What can you see? Clockwise rotation? Anti-clockwise rotation? Both?
This is an interesting test posted on the Daily Telegraph website, and it is purported to test whether you are a left-brained or right-brained person. But from my one semester of neuroscience,(这位是学神经系统科学的), I would say that the left-brain / right-brain dichotomy thing is mostly bullshit. While there are indeed dominant spheres for language processing (most people are left-sided, some people are right-sided, even less are both-sided) as well as spatial perception (which is usually on the right side);
the left-side = rational, right-side = emotional / linguistic / artistic theory is a hypothesis and has not been substantiated scientifically.
It is often exaggerated in popular psychology and often is used to sell \"boost your left brain\" or \"train to use both your brains\" kind of pseudoscience stuff.(伪科学),卖脑健品的&开发大脑潜能*#¥%@ 做广告时常用的夸张手法

One of the current external links on the site:
Left Brain/Right Brain Visual Aptitude Test
links to an adult site. From my brief check, the site only has this one page on lateralization as it pertains to this article. While it's an interesting graphic, and it has something to do with left and right as concepts, I don't see any reason for its inclusion in this article. Its claim to be a diagnostic tool for determining left/right dominance (\"If [you see the image turning] clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.\"), is unsupported AFAIK. I will remove it if there are no objections. Aaron.michels (talk) 19:00, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
This is a pretty clear case of an inappropriate external link. Feel free to remove this and any other clear violations. --Gimme danger (talk) 23:31, 16 April 2008 (UTC) |
